Union Grove weathered a scare by Luella in the third inning where the Wolverines coughed up four runs, but Union Grove still won 17-5 on Wednesday. Jacob Yarbrough and Cameron James each drove in runs during the inning.
In the first inning, Union Grove got their offense started when an error scored one run.
The Wolverines put up seven runs in the sixth inning. The offensive firepower by UG was led by Chance Johnson, Tyler Henry, Caleb Grant, and Buck Barrett, who each had RBIs in the inning.
Joey Pourron was the winning pitcher for The Wolverines. He went three innings, allowing five runs on two hits and striking out four. Hunter Fuls and Ben Norton entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Devin Marlowe took the loss for Luella. He lasted two and a third innings, allowing five hits and eight runs while striking out four.
Union Grove collected 11 hits on the day. Grant, Pourron, Beau Brand, and Johnson each had multiple hits.
