Union Grove lost the lead late in a 7-5 defeat to Pike County on Saturday. The game was tied at five with Pike County batting in the bottom of the fourth when Tanner Yates singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
In the first inning, Union Grove got their offense started when Stormy Smith drew a walk, scoring one run.
Pike County scored four runs in the third inning. Brody Sullivan, Caleb Hammond, and Caleb Carr each had RBIs in the frame.
Ridge Smith was on the pitcher’s mound for Pike County. He allowed zero hits and three runs over one and one-third innings, striking out two.
Ryan Hutchinson started the game for the Wolverines . He went three innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out three. Nolan Ballard threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Brandon Cook and Turner Cook each collected one hit to lead UG .
Mason Trucks led Pike County with two hits in three at bats. Zane Axelberg led Pike grade with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with five stolen bases. The Pirates didn’t commit a single error in the field. Sullivan had four chances in the field, the most on the team.
